Simon & Garfunkel, "Bookends":

Long ago, it must be

I have a photograph

Preserve your memories

They're all that's left you.

Just something that popped into my head, that needed to be said.

Songs always stir up the hardest emotions. =( especially when i'm feeling sad.

Those words make me feel sad.

(hmmm...kinda hope you had a good cry.... =j seriously!....its not right that I cry about your dad if youre not! I know you will grieve in your own time and in your own way...but I shouldn't be the only one with a runny nose and tear stained cheeks. )

But sincerely, so sad and so sorry for your loss. How are you doing Mark?

I suddenly have the inclination to forward you all the sad songs I know. oh dear....well...you've been forewarned!

Take care,

=j

Love Simon and Garfunkel. There's always that Josh Groban song too...

Fly me up

To where you are

Beyond the distant star

I wish upon tonight

To see you smile

If only for awhile

To know you're there

A breath away's not far

To where you are

I have a hard time crying ... The feelings do well up, though.

I find songs get to my emotions more, too. Not always sad emotions, but ... maybe those are the ones I fight the hardest. I find inarticulate songs, like Pink Floyd's "Brain Damage", have the most effect on me. I think that, though I love good lyrics, words help me contain the emotion.

My favorite song these days is by a woman named Dar Williams, and it's called "After All". It's a song about sadness, but about sadness past. I recommend it, especially if you're searching out sad ones for me. :-P

Maybe it helps to tell yourself it's okay to let go and cry? Headphones help me connect to the music and sometimes it is the sound that affects me more than the words. But for me a good cry can feel cathartic at times.

I do think, Sed, that songs are like poetry with the added music.
