Biollante123
Hello, I want to get interested in learning the Chinese language, but I have no idea where to start. I've tried Memrise, Pimsleur, etc., but nothing seems to work. I quickly get bored and lose interest/motivation for Memrise/Pimsleur. They offer a Chinese course next semester at my local community college, but I don't want to go to that because it's a day class, and I don't like day classes because not too friendly/mature people are there during the day. I've also considered Assimil Chinese with ease, but I don't know/think that would work for me either. I just don't know what to do... Can anybody help me? IrmaJean
Do you have a passion for learning Chinese or are you hoping to find a new passion? I don't think any of us here can help you decide which choice is best for you. What do you think?
Biollante123
I'm hoping to find a passion for learning Chinese. I'm trying to get interested in the Chinese language through reading Chinese poetry, which I used to be into years ago. Maybe someone can give me advice? Victimorthecrime
Bio, my advice would be to choose what is best for you and for your future. Focus on that point where your skills intersect your proclivities. If you possess linguistic skill and are passionately interested in the Chinese language then go for it. LaLa
You may "start" here It's not a joke (although I know this won't really teach you much), it just occurred to me that this may be a nice TED talk to see for somebody who wants to learn Chinese. BTW; I know somebody who learned Chinese with help of a Chinese guy whom he somehow contacted on the web as he offered "lessons / consultations" by Skype and chat: There apparently are people offering this support for learners of languages, so I assume there should be a website where they offer it. Perhaps this could be also a way for you: You might at least ask them there the same you asked us here. Good luck!
Gryphon
I'm a chinese from singapore. Learning chinese is tough. Lots of memory work especially writing chinese words. The teaching in schools nowadays starts with learning to read words and HanYuPinYing.
