Bit of a big U Turn in policy here, much more strict measures announced today which will hopefully better protect the vulnerable and support business too.
  2. Thanks

I have been carefully monitoring the news for months about the coronavirus. I think it is wise to be prepared, this virus is concerning. It can spread while those who are infected are still asymptomatic. The potential strain on the healthcare system and the ripple effect is alarming. I live in New York in the US and nearby counties have cases. My daughter's school has been cancelled through early April. My son is on lockdown in his CA apartment. I work in retail so I have an elevated risk. That being said, I think it makes sense to be rational as much as possible. Listen to the scientists, heed their advice, help one another as much as possible...we will get through this.
    Stay well everyone.

A result-driven mindset will leverage value-added bandwidth and fast track gap analysis to proactive client focus in the ball park of a bottom line benchmark using best practice synergy to revisit the strategic fit of a win-win game plan. 👈

It just occurred to me that getting a salaried job is basically playing buzzword bingo with a resume and winning. Volunteer/extracurricular activities are like the free space in the middle.

Stay safe everyone. I hope all this bullshit goes away soon.

Just watched a press conference with VP Pence and a bunch of other faces including Dr. Anthony Fauci, urging and “requesting” that people show deference to vulnerable people when being tested and to show restraint in buying food and supplies.

Which I thought was funny because I’ve lived and worked long enough to know that “requesting” the public to do anything is like requesting pre-schoolers to share and be nice to each other. Price gougers and profiteers/hoarders ought to be threatened with summary execution. Total scum.

Sports are off but not all public events, there are some countries like Spain with warnings issued for people not to visit unless it is essential.
Yes, there is the whole economic side too.
    Hmmm.

Well, for starters, reading about over 200 science specialists writing to the government to say it is not taking tough enough action. Also the unpredictability. Also thinking about relatives, underlying conditions etc.
The figures are showing the vast majority will be ok - it doesn't help much somehow, as some people will not be ok.

@jazz is England shutting down all public events and non-essential travel like other countries?  I had heard no.

In addition to the people affected by Coronavirus there are problems for people trying to access an overwhelmed healthcare system for other reasons and the huge economic impact of this thing.

And the uncertainty. And the risk. The limited visibility, the opaqueness of the situation, the lack of clarity, the questions that remain.  The ephemeral nature of the phenomenon.

Where I am at in the USA toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and even many food items are completely sold out.

Government has shut down schools, and all non essential retail business - only food, gas, drug stores remain open.  It is a state of emergency.

Thanks Vic, you too. Hope you feel better soon.
There are actually figures published showing how many cases are in each county in the country, only a handful reported where I am as yet.
There is a plan which is to delay the 'spike' of cases as long as possible,  until the main flu season is over, so the NHS has a chance to cope.
I know Dave put 'bionic' plague, I sincerely hope it is not 😮 ☹️

I literally just got home from my appointment w a nurse at a CVS Health Hub.  I have a sinus infection.  I got antibiotics.

She said corona is a 103 degree fever, DRY cough - painful, headache and body ache.  Not a running nose.

@Klingsor , from what I have read the main symptoms are a fever and coughing, rather than any sniffles. It is different to flu. Most people who are unfortunate enough to get it will have mild symptoms though.
Yes, it is obviously very contagious and hangs around on all sorts of surfaces too.
You should write a blog, could be cathartic? Theoretical rambles....😉

Just wanted to share a link from a leading Research Professor who has done a lot of work on this sort of area and written some books about it too, if you think reading about how to deal with it all could help or maybe provide a few ideas - his latest research is using virtual reality scenarios.

"Delusions tend to develop at times of stress, which activates genetic and environmental risk factors. Those factors can include experience of trauma; sleeplessness; isolation; and drug use. Certain ways of thinking also contribute: thinking negatively about the self; worrying excessively; jumping to conclusions; and only picking up on the things that seem to confirm our beliefs."
Lack of sleep and stress can be big difficulties.

Outasight, sorry to read about this, must be very hard work. From my experience and readings there are only a few options - medication of some sort from the psychiatrist or talking to a psychologist who knows about sz and paranoia and has seen patients in the same situation before - does not have to be joint therapy.
What I think about paranoia is that those who are close get caught up in it because they are the people that most time is spent with - the paranoia is around the individual wherever they are in a way.
Did anything happen a decade ago that may have triggered it all off? Paranoia means that the person is probably very scared indeed about it all themselves.
