Thanks retro!

They say it is not about how much you drink but how it effects you and I just feel so much better sober.

I know just what you mean buddy. The few times I've been really drunk (well, two times actually) I felt like s**t.

I love an occasional cold beer, but I doubt I drink one a month. Keep up the good work.

Let me say I am still not drinking, still have a job, and still have absolutely no life at all outside of semi-solitude but incredibly and against all odds that is not bothering me currently. Should it? Maybe. Will it? Unknown. What am I doing when not at work? Sleeping, eating, getting limited exercise, reading, internet, planning, working hard at making myself, this little house, my finances, all much better. Will I succeed? Who knows? Do I have anything better to do? No.

Still have not had a drink since Thanksgiving. That means I stayed dry during St Patricks day and trust me around here that is not very common.

One of the things I have noticed is an uptick in my ability to remember things. I sometimes make a game of trying to recall an obscure name or fact from the distant past.  The increase in recall is real.

PS - not preaching to anyone, just sharing my experience.

very nice! although, memory is a double-edged sword. too much of it can be a bad thing. so don't try to remember too much :P.

You know say the truest things are said in jest. With my laying off the booze combined with self awareness have reinvigorated the accuser in me. He is bringing up every ridiculous, foolish, embarrassing thing I have done since preschool. A bit like that last episode of Seinfeld.

It's weird, there were good times in my life and I do recall them from time to time but my mind has a definite bias to the bad ones.

perhaps your mind has joined us on the dark side lol.

the "good times" i've had are very scarce and they mean nothing when i reminisce about them.

There is a limitless supply right at our finger tips. Only The Lord knows how many guys are addicted. Not all countries allow it. Here you could be any age and watching that stuff.  This whole internet, cell phones, free porn, social media, it all just came out of nowhere without thought to the consequences for civil society.  People plan riots and attacks and shut down free speech and no one even cares because they are too busy doing whatever they are doing on the internet. Its just another story on their feed.

As often happens to me in summertime I once again started drinking beer on Memorial Day.  That's the bad news but the good news is I have stuck strictly to light beer (Lite and Bud light lime) which is 4.2% alcohol quite low. Still I absolutely know I would be better off without it. Then why do I do it?  All I can say is if there was a hall of fame for self-sabotage I will get in on the 1st ballot.

Thanks Irma Jean. I had few last night but was home safe and sound no harm done.  So long as I stick to light beer & weekends then things are not too bad. It's just that it would be better if I didn't because I would get more done.

Yes it is a good weekend. It is hot here and I like that.  It was 121 F in Kuwait City and also in Baghdad yesterday so that makes my 90 look mild lol.

Yes there are other things that get me to a good state of mind but those things require work lol all good.

I have a day off so last night I did have some Bud light lime and stayed up watching Impractical Jokers among other things.  Good summertime chill out.  I could have used another hour of sleep but other than that feel half decent.  Hope to get a walk later if the rain holds off.  Also even though I have done a good job of limiting the drinking to non-work nights, I should try to have some weekends where I don't drink because there are better things to do w your free time.

True to my word no beer last night, Friday night, and on a hot summer night that is an achievement.  Feeling decent this humid Saturday morning, drinking coffee and just letting my mind roam.  Got some chores & errands and then a walk and then a nap.  Have an offer to catch up w some friends tonight but gonna play it by ear.

Last night was Saturday night and glad to say I had no beer!  Had 3 big Starbucks w a friend and that makes it all the more amazing because usually if I am that jazzed on coffee I will surely go for beer later in order to settle down. Also I was upset because the staff was rude and I got soaked in an unexpected downpour. Usually that would be another excuse to consume.

Now this morning I was able to run to the fruit stand bright and early just after 8 am which I would not have done if I was up to 3am drinking.

Going to go for a walk later in my brand new New Balance sneakers. Hopefully get a few other things done & then take a short nap.

Wow! We agree on every point. Let me screen shot lol.

Is it stupid to drink beer to come down from coffee? Short answer: yes.

The sneakers cost $120 so they better be special! Supposedly they are really good, procreative & supportive.

This friggin Starbucks is always out of creme and/or milk and when I politely ask for some they get an attitude.  I am 100 percent on the side of working people and am always nice so there is no reason to be snippy.  I know some people hate their jobs but it's not like anyone held a gun to their head and made them work there.  Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines are always hiring.  And strip clubs.
