My Father Passed Away This Morning

malign

715 views

My brother called me at lunch time to tell me that my father was taken to the Emergency room this morning and died about an hour after my brother arrived. I had visited on Sunday, and Dad seemed pale and tired. At least someone was with him when he died.

Strangely, my brother was present at the passing of both of my parents, and I was at work both times. At least my alibi is secure.

Job hunting??? Did you loose your job? Sorry havnt had much (if any, been feeling rather selfish today) time to check out your blogs.

What kind of work are you looking for?

ooooooohhhh, if you get a job in a chocolate factory, will ya send me loads of chocolate - please :). (See I really am in a selfish mood today, only thinking of myself, sorry)

I can make a deal with you: I'll send you any chocolate that's left over! :-)

Yeah, layoff time. But on the bright side, I get to look for work elsewhere in the country, like near certain people we know. {The house sold in June, so that's gone too.}

thanks big bro.

hope that you manage to find work soon - preferably in a chocolate factory, but if not something that you can atleast enjoy and thats nearer to friends :)

Gotta go now, but I am thinking of you, and send you my love

Laid off? Sigh.

What a week you've had! I have faith you will find work! I hope it's located somewhere else :)

Isn't it amazin' all the friends that came here today! I'm glad you stopped in. We missed you. Now I feel I can stop posting :D

sorry for your loss Mark and sorry to hear about the layoff. IIRC, you are a programmer - so I am guessing you're not that concerned about finding another gig. Still, being sent packing is no fun. It really bothers me how companies treat their workers as disposable, especially those who have been there the longest.

Hey Mark, I'm so sorry about your Dad. Hope you give yourself some time. The job hunt will keep. I wish for you the same care and support you so selflessly offer others. My thoughts are with you and your loved ones. Hang in there.

It's Old Home Week! :-)

I like hearing from old friends ...

I'm coping fairly well with my Dad's passing. Of course, it hasn't totally hit me yet. But we did have a fairly long lead-up. We had all said goodbye to each other enough. So it's not shock, so much ... It's more like, one day, I'll remember something we used to do or something he used to say, and I'll realize that they won't ever happen again ... He won't get to be there at my (next) wedding. Stuff like that.

Those I don't get to talk to on a regular basis? Take care of yourselves, please. My good wishes can only do so much ...

Congratulations on finding love and having your next wedding with a true partner, whenever that will be. :)

{{{Your dad missing milestones might make you acknowledge once again, he's not available, and that can tug at your heart}}}

Oh, wedding; that sounds so nice here! (^_^)

May I ask... It would probably be more appropriate under your previous blog entry, but... this discussion is more active now, so... How does your getting up in the morning look like now, when (if it's already the case) you're not going to work? You mentioned that you always needed some time to overcome a kind of fear (?) or reluctance due to the idea of going to work. If this particular issue is gone, can you just get up without ... needing some comfort? :o

Whoa...don't uncork the champagne.

Mark just casually mentioned his "next wedding" as an example, and _I_ took it to a dream/wish level I have for him that he find love and a partner (an equal mate) after all he went through with his first marriage.

If that happens.

Sorry Mark :-/

It's an interesting question, whether I would feel differently in the morning if I weren't going to work.

But, I still am. They're giving me quite an extended period of layoff notice, but it's traditional in my business for the person to work through the notice period (getting paid, of course, so that's worth something.) But it means that life hasn't really changed much, on a day to day basis; there's just this thing hanging over my head. Paging Damocles! Have you forgotten your sword, buddy?

Well, I actually didn't think that Mark was going to have a wedding soon - that, for instance, he had already planed the day ;) (although I wasn't 100 % sure if there wasn't "a secret" I didn't know about :P). I just wrote that it sounded very nice to mention a wedding here - more generally, ideas about a happy future - in a conversation that started about... death.

Mark, I'm glad to hear that you have such an extended period of layoff notice (I wasn't sure if you were still working, I don't know the laws in the US; I just know that in our country they have to do it (/let you know) 3 months before...).

Isn't it good that Damocles has forgotten his sword? ;) I believe you don't need to have it above your head to... do what you need to do...
