A Group-Participation Fairy Tale

A couple of us had an idea to try writing a fairy tale, but in an unconventional way: each person who comments adds a paragraph, and we try to see where the story decides to go.

"I wrote a story 'bout it. Wanna hear it? Here it goes."

A Fairy Tale in Multiple Voices

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away ... there was a little girl with a serious problem: everything she did turned out badly. Not just a little bit badly, either. It was as if somebody followed her around and made everything she did into a mistake.

In fact, there was such a somebody! His name was Murphy, and he was an evil fairy. Such beings are invisible, except to other fairies, and are sometimes hired to give mortals a hard time. This is Murphy's story.

After a while of flying the other way, Murphy was getting a little bored of having races with the other flying creatures in the area, besides he always won - he made sure of it. So Murphy decided to fly this way for a change.

Murphy flew for what seemed like hundreds of miles, over what could be described as hills, mountains and valleys. (But in reality it was only a few hundred yards, and over a couple of hills and a meadow) When in the relatively close distance he saw that girl from Magical Donalds, Not Sylvia, the other one.

As Murphy got a little closer he could hear her talking away to herself "stupid girl" he muttered. Still with nothing better to do, he decided that it would be fun to spy on her, hmm yes he thought to himself, "she could entertain me, till I find something better to do, maybe even try out some of my new gadgets that Queue kindly donated"

This thought cheered Murphy up no end, (simple things please simple.......... well it pleased Murphy at any rate.)

Murphy carefully(ish) landed a little distance away from the girl, hiding out of sight behind a few flowers, and deided to put on his new jacket that Queue made for him [well if he was gonna be a spying, he had to look and feel the part - right?] ................

Unfortunately, although the invisibility cloak worked just as designed, it made it very difficult for Murphy to fly. And a two-inch fairy on foot wouldn't be going very far per hour, even if he was in shape. So he tried flying, a couple of inches off the ground, behind the girl as she walked, and then landing and putting on the cloak when she stopped to rest.

She chattered incessantly to someone she called Wanda. Murphy supposed that it must be an imaginary friend, so he didn't pay much attention to her. In fact, he was beginning to get bored with following her, when she stopped to make camp for the night. She pitched a tent next to a small pond where crickets chirped and frogs croaked. Murphy flew closer in the hopes of finding something he could steal.

Suddenly a giant bullfrog opened its mouth and snatched Murphy out of the air, stuck to its tongue. The impact knocked the wand out of his hand, and everything went dark as he was swallowed.

{ Inside the giant bullfrog youd imagine it to be gross - right ? Like really dark, slimey and unpleasantly smelly, ofcourse you would - but you'd be wrong. For this is not taking place here in the world as we know or would imagine, this is a magical land, one of vampires, bats, fairies, imps, goblins and everything else I have forgotten to mention. (besides, I dont do scarey :)) }

Murphy, slowly came too, sat up and looked around for his breathe which had momentarily escaped him. Ah there it was, right beside him floating around teasing him. Murphy reached out and swayed his arms around a few times in hopes of catching his breaath again. Before finally just taking of his hat, and catching it with a sort of netting action, (similar to the little butterfly nets we all used to play with as kids) and promptly put his hat back on with his breathe safely tucked away where it belonged...............

Murphy stood cautiously, patting down his arms and legs, and flapped his tiny wings a few times, just to make sure nothing was broken and everything was in its right place, - afterall its not everyday you get eaten - is it?

Well thought Murphy, everything seems to be ok, I guess I'd better take a look round here, and try work out a way of getting out.

So Murphy was just about to set off flying, when he heard a tiny voice coming from across the way, Murphy to lazy to go investigate, reckoned he would just wait right where he was for a while, and see what happenes.

Sure enough within a few moments, a little creature came sorta flying towards him.

"Oh great", said Murphy under his breath "Just what I need some thing coming to talk to me"

As the creature got a little closer, Murphy could see this creature, was infact a very cute sorta buttercup moth/fly thingy and in a irratating way very colourful

"Hey Im not something, Im me" moaned Betty, and flapped one of her wings in his face, just to let him know that she was niether deaf, nor impressed by his mumblings........
