Planning. I'm not good at it.

@LaLa is this your first or second shot?  Regardless, congrats, good news.

I forget if I said or not but I get my 2nd this Friday (5/21/21) afternoon. So glad. I am a bit apprehensive, not about the shot, but that this whole thing is not over. There are various reports out there of vaccinated people still getting sick but at this point until proven otherwise I am going to be confident in it.

It's the first. (Here, only a few people who got the 1st shot in December, already received the 2nd one. The gap is 16 weeks.) I don't feel anything (yet?), just (after several hours) a very mild pain when I touch the spot where it was injected. I usually react to vaccines (like the anti-flu) like this - almost no reaction.

Don't worry, Vic; some people do get sick, but not seriously, as far as I know. And it's just a small %, so the probability to get even mildly sick now is much, much lower (after about 2 week after vaccination - even the 1st shot; the second is rather for a longer-lasting immunity).

Thanks @LaLa  it is 1pm here and I feel fine but zero energy and I feel like I have a head cold or sinus headache and these symptoms are definitely vaccine side effects. But my mood is good 😌 so that’s the key thing. I am over the moon that I will soon be able to go out, have food, maybe a beer, hear some live music etc and just generally move on with life.

I read that W. Virginia is raffling guns and pickups to incentive the vaccinations. They certainly know the demographic, my state has discussed something similar.

I would love to perform an experiment, maybe enlist some help to do it...knowing how easy it is to start the stupidest shit trending on social media, especially facebook, I’d like to start a story going that men who’ve had the vaccination are experiencing penis growth and testosterone increases. Can you imagine? The military would have to begin escorting the shipments because they’d be hijacking freight trucks to get it and sell the shit at a 1000% premium.

@malign how are you?  Are you still taking psychology classes or is that done?

@Klingsor for my job I had occasion to make about 20 phone calls to your State and I am telling you every single person was very nice.

As a side topic, what is so hard about being nice?  When and why did that go out of style?

Of all the innumerable annoyances and irritations of modern life, this is possibly the most insufferable to me. No one can just be pleasantly NORMAL anymore. When did common courtesy become “bourgie”? Why do we have to say “fuck” every other word and say it with that spit-flying emphatic “f”? What does this prove? Endless streams of profanity lose their edge after so much and you just feel bored by it eventually and wondering why the person can’t think of anything else to say.

For anyone who cares I got a good job again. Keeping my nose to the grindstone, wedding myself to my work, and trying to carve out a small slice of contentment and privacy for myself before the country implodes.

Hey @Klingsor I’ll address your 2nd paragraph first. That is great news and I wish you all the best w it.

As to the first paragraph, common courtesy has become so increasingly rare that I find myself (sometimes w a lump in my throat) thanking the person for being nice. I do my best to do my part; that’s all we can do.

I am still WAH, same job, it’s been stressful lately thanks to management that loves to change workflows on a whim, throw special projects at us on an email and have passive aggressive meetings about it. I tell myself I’m just gonna take their money and ride it out for as long as I can.

Oh yeah I share your sentiments about the country imploding.  For years I used to tell my best friend “at least I’ll be dead before the whole thing collapses”. I no longer believe that, I believe a revolution has occurred, I personally believe this whole thing is being orchestrated; I’ll just leave it at that.

But hey, on a more upbeat note I have been wrong about many many things so just want to say I wish everyone here all good things for the second half of 2021 and going forward from there.

There has been a trend in my life since childhood where if things get good for me for a little tiny bit of time then without question what follows is some very bad things. It’s like there’s a ceiling right above me that I can’t go any higher without the universe saying “nope back in your usual place of misery boy”.

on Sunday I had a little fun I got out and saw a local concert where I met some folks that I had been talking to online during the quarantine. It was fun. Also as I mentioned before I’ve been doing some exercise and feeling good. Well of course by Tuesday things had to go downhill because it’s my life. First I had an extreme allergic reaction some red raspberries I ate. I literally struggled breathe for about an hour And it wasn’t until nightfall that I felt better. The next day I got out of bed and immediately threw my back out. I’ve been having muscle spasms in my back ever since.

This is why I made this blog. How can anyone plan anything when your life is like this? Where are you never know when the next ambush is coming your way.

Honestly I’m not super down or anything as I write this. Partly because I’ve gotten used to it, partly because I told myself that if this is the biggest problem my age that I’m doing pretty well. But nonetheless it sucks when you know that any good experience you have is going to lead to hellish ones following because that’s just your life.

It’s funny how it’s the little things in life that count sometimes. I had a T-shirt that I like that I could not find for the last year. It’s a plum color which is kind of interesting and it has a very call Grateful Dead design on the front. So yesterday it was raining here and I couldn’t mow the lawn as I planned so I buckle down and really searched for this shirt and I finally found it. It was inside another shirt and that made it hard to find. I was so happy I ran out and had lunch & beer at a bar. When I came home the sun was out and the lawn was dry enough and I was able to mow it and get it done. So it all turned out well in the end.

This is exactly what I cannot understand, all my life.

It's so annoying when in so many situations (in which you don't even have to be - you can just accidentally read or hear about them and thus be reminded of it), you are supposed to plan or envisage your future! Like "where do you see yourself in 5 years?" I don't even know if humanity will be here in a year, for instance...! Or, recently, in the context of personal finances: You have to save for the future and to chose the right way, you need to know what you're going to spend on the next 5 (even more) years! Haha! Really? So there is anyone who knows that they're not gonna loose their job soon or not have an incapacitating accident or illness??? Or that their family member won't have such an accident or illness, requiring all-day care and lots of money?? It enrages me, such BS from "financial advisers", because it only shows how ridiculously self-deceptive most people are and how impossible it is to do anything "good" for your future if you refuse to (nay: cannot!) be like them. :(

Sorry for bringing such "pessimism" here, Vic. (._.')

I'm glad to hear your good news (even though some after only a relatively long time - I haven't visited this site for a few weeks). And it's pleasant to see how you can find positive things / points of view in many situations. I can, too; I do appreciate all the good in the past and present, I just cannot think the future will be "OK". It might occasionally be, to some extent (but only if one doesn't take "the planet" into account, just one's little personal world), but there are many horrible things coming (we just yet don't know which in particular - untreatable illness? accident? death of a loved-one?, fire?, ...? many at once?) and any planning won't help to prevent them, which makes me... less trying "to do the right things" in some regards (= taking good care of myself, ...). :(

Sorry... :(

Probably the planner-types would to see it as a “setback”, something to be “accounted for” and then move on.  That can be ok when it is something occasional but not when it’s constant.
