Earlier I made a quick trip to the local, rural dollar store to get a few essentials. I counted 12 people while I was in there and not a single one was wearing a mask, not a single one social distanci

Hopefully you won’t have any jerks Irmajean. I understand the anxiety. My state just mandated the same thing...it’ll be a juggling act between those even bothering to enforce it and those bothering to

The virus has thankfully slowed down here in NY...for now anyway. That hasn't been the case for some other states, though, unfortunately. I hope there is a safe and effective vaccine soon. So many liv

Hi Dave. Hope all is well.  As for COVID-19 personally I think it actually is very bad.

I do my best to look at the facts and simply put this virus is unstoppable.  It can be spread air borne for up to 3 hours and on surfaces for 24 and by people that are asymptotic. This is what the worlds leading health experts and doctors say. Now if someone can rationally explain how we can stop something like this I will gladly listen.

I am 57 years old and have never remotely seen anything like what we are seeing: schools closed, concerts cancelled, church cancelled, store shelves empty.  I am not a fan of the WHO, CDC nor the media but they are not completely incompetent and if someone begs to differ I would be curious to see their credentials and track record.

Tell me your thoughts.

Does anyone know what the actual symptoms of this infection are? One source will say that it’s horrible, painful and very serious then another source will say that it’s no worse than a mild case of the flu with a similar mortality rate and mostly a danger to people who would already be vulnerable to the common flu (the elderly, diabetic, etc). The CDC website lists symptoms in line with a typical cold or flu. That’s all I thought it was - an extremely contagious strain of the flu.

I won’t indulge in speculation but whatever the ultimate source of this virus I think it is being used as a catalyst in the US to effect broader political and social change. In Klingsor’s Kooky rat maze of theories it is my thought that this change is going to comprise a shift to decentralized economies and tribalism.

I‘ve stocked up on non-perishables. I have enough to get by for 6 maybe 8 weeks of disruption. Hopefully things will sort out by that time. If not oh well.

Those are my rambling thoughts. They don’t matter and nobody gives a shit but there it is.

@Klingsor , from what I have read the main symptoms are a fever and coughing, rather than any sniffles. It is different to flu. Most people who are unfortunate enough to get it will have mild symptoms though.

Yes, it is obviously very contagious and hangs around on all sorts of surfaces too.

You should write a blog, could be cathartic? Theoretical rambles....😉

Thanks Vic, you too. Hope you feel better soon.

There are actually figures published showing how many cases are in each county in the country, only a handful reported where I am as yet.

There is a plan which is to delay the 'spike' of cases as long as possible,  until the main flu season is over, so the NHS has a chance to cope.

I know Dave put 'bionic' plague, I sincerely hope it is not 😮 ☹️

Well, for starters, reading about over 200 science specialists writing to the government to say it is not taking tough enough action. Also the unpredictability. Also thinking about relatives, underlying conditions etc.

The figures are showing the vast majority will be ok - it doesn't help much somehow, as some people will not be ok.

@jazz is England shutting down all public events and non-essential travel like other countries?  I had heard no.

In addition to the people affected by Coronavirus there are problems for people trying to access an overwhelmed healthcare system for other reasons and the huge economic impact of this thing.

And the uncertainty. And the risk. The limited visibility, the opaqueness of the situation, the lack of clarity, the questions that remain.  The ephemeral nature of the phenomenon.

It just occurred to me that getting a salaried job is basically playing buzzword bingo with a resume and winning. Volunteer/extracurricular activities are like the free space in the middle.

Stay safe everyone. I hope all this bullshit goes away soon.

Just watched a press conference with VP Pence and a bunch of other faces including Dr. Anthony Fauci, urging and “requesting” that people show deference to vulnerable people when being tested and to show restraint in buying food and supplies.

Which I thought was funny because I’ve lived and worked long enough to know that “requesting” the public to do anything is like requesting pre-schoolers to share and be nice to each other. Price gougers and profiteers/hoarders ought to be threatened with summary execution. Total scum.

Looks like it's begun here too:

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-nyc/new-york-city-los-angeles-mayors-order-restaurants-bars-theaters-closed-for-coronavirus-idUSKBN21308Q

NYC Mayor de Blasio is suggesting the idea of nationalizing critical industries in New York. He is also claiming the effects of the virus could last for another 6 months.

Is that where we are headed? Is the beginning of a major paradigm shift? The catalyst perhaps? I don't know how anyone could expect life to just return to normal after 6 months of lockdowns, curfews, and whatever else is coming. In the age of 24 hour news cycles six months is like a lifetime. Would we even remember what life was like before "the virus"?

This is all beginning to become quite surreal.
