New age bionic plaque

@Klingsor what just kills me is to think of all the trillions of dollars of tax revenue sent to the Federal Government each year and that none of these deeply caring genius leaders armed w state of the art technology even planned one jot or tiddle for this eventuality.

Why are there not warehouses placed strategically around the county full of toilet paper, hand sanitizer, dehydrated food, etc, etc??  And emergency medical facilities too.

Why not have a fund to support business and displaced workers for 90 days?

It seems like no matter what the problem it never aligns w any department(s).

And when pressed the bureaucrats will inevitably cry “well we would need more money if you expect us to actually do something”.

Looks like it's begun here too:

NYC Mayor de Blasio is suggesting the idea of nationalizing critical industries in New York. He is also claiming the effects of the virus could last for another 6 months.

Is that where we are headed? Is the beginning of a major paradigm shift? The catalyst perhaps? I don't know how anyone could expect life to just return to normal after 6 months of lockdowns, curfews, and whatever else is coming. In the age of 24 hour news cycles six months is like a lifetime. Would we even remember what life was like before "the virus"?

This is all beginning to become quite surreal.

de Blasio is just a socialist ideologue.  What does nationalizing industry have to do with an alleged epidemic?  He didn't want to close schools at first either because public schools are sacred to him.

In my experience, incompetence fills the system from top to bottom. It his self-perpetuating. Private industry is no different, take it from someone who knows. CYA (cover your ass) reigns at all levels. No one is interested in solutions. The whole thing is built on nothing, financed by debt. It's a culture of glad-handing and revolving self-interests.

The truly competent and clever people by definition are outside the system and never deal with it except when they can put it to good use for themselves.

I won’t indulge in speculation but whatever the ultimate source of this virus I think it is being used as a catalyst in the US to effect broader political and social change. In Klingsor’s Kooky rat maze of theories it is my thought that this change is going to comprise a shift to decentralized economies and tribalism.

Without question. I’ve seen this everyday of my life since I joined the full time workforce in 1986.  But I think most people know this about corporations but an alarming number don’t when it comes to government.

I have been carefully monitoring the news for months about the coronavirus. I think it is wise to be prepared, this virus is concerning. It can spread while those who are infected are still asymptomatic. The potential strain on the healthcare system and the ripple effect is alarming. I live in New York in the US and nearby counties have cases. My daughter's school has been cancelled through early April. My son is on lockdown in his CA apartment. I work in retail so I have an elevated risk. That being said, I think it makes sense to be rational as much as possible. Listen to the scientists, heed their advice, help one another as much as possible...we will get through this.

Stay well everyone.

Bloomberg is clearly a toady of the Chinese Communist Party for financial reasons.

Crisis makes "totalitarianism" (the Chinese now capitalist-fascist model) look good?  Please!

Chinese dictator not a dictator?  Serves his constituency?  Bloomberg is a traitor!

I doubt Michael Bloomberg reads and personally approves every opinion piece that is published on the news website.

The author of this article contributes to several big name media enterprises. There was no agenda behind linking something posted on Bloomberg.com other than I thought it was interesting article representative of a certain perspective. I think you missed the point anyway.

What I’m talking about is Balkanization. In simplest terms that’s what I’m hinting at. The divisive politics for the past 20 years, radicalism, and now this as possibly the catalyst. Other countries have a strong interest in seeing this happen to the US.

On the face of it, decentralization can be a good thing, a welcome thing, but only after a long, possibly very savage period of restructuring. Balkanization is a process that creates oceans of blood because of the social fragmentation that is a necessary precursor. And it might extend all over the world, not just the US.

I hope I’m wrong. I only replied to this because I don’t think this needs to turn into a thread of American politics and I wanted to make clear what I was talking about.

Michael Bloomberg has made his opinions on China perfectly well known.  He insists everything in his publicaations conforms.

@jazz

I read that UK's approach was to let the virus run so as to preserve normal economic functioning. That has changed I guess? They are shutting our economy down piece by piece and now discussing sending Americans a temporary "UBI" type check in the mail. Seems like the the madness has finally caught up even to where I live...store shelves emptying like they do during severe weather.

As you said, it's the uncertainty and instability that frightens me most.

The approach has turned from "mitigate" to "suppress" as much as possible and anyone classed as vulnerable to self isolate for 12 weeks. Also some financial help for businesses. It is going to be an enormous challenge to get organised overall too. The panic buying is not helping and is pointlessly focused on particular goods, the stockpilers would soon run out of some other item anyway.

Yes, a lot of uncertainty. Maybe you'll end up with UBI as a policy by the back door as a result of all this, who knows?!

Yes certainly a big about face in policy. The EU is closing borders.

It’s bad. It’s bad here, it’s bad everywhere.

Very interesting. I caught the last 20 minutes or so, I'll have to catch up on his other videos.

Like everyone else I've been thinking in terms of supply, but a lack of demand has the same effect. What good is a check in the mail - purchasing power - when there's nothing to purchase because everything is closed or shuttered? They might as well nationalize industry and ration everything because that's the only thing the money will be good for...credits to obtain living rations. These stimulus packages from the Fed will do nothing except drive inflation or am I missing something?

So people can make 1 more month of rent or mortgage. But they keep extending the scope of the containment period...first it was 8 weeks, then it was August, now I'm reading 2 YEARS in some estimates. There is no recovery from that. Small and medium business will be decimated.

People don't understand that a modern economy is nothing but numbers, digits. It's tied to nothing. Consumerism and number juggling is what keeps it running. When there are no consumers, what happens? It fails.

Wishing everyone good health, and I'm glad we are still able to chat online. I hope things do return to some semblance of normalcy but I'm doubting it more and more.

It's taken my mind off my small penis for a while though, so there's that. 🙄

Someone once said “if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck...” and by that logic I think this virus was engineered. It kills older people more than younger people, men more than women; 50% of those infected show no symptoms; it is highly highly contagious and spread all around the world in a few months. It is so highly communicative that healthcare workers taking every precaution get it. Hot weather does not appear to offer a prophylactic effect.  Up to 20% fall in the category of either critical or fatal.  We’ve never seen anything like this before.

Yes! I have been wanting to say this but was too embarrassed and didn't want to stir the pot. The terms "Nazi" and "fascist" are often thrown around...well this virus is fascist in the most rigorous sense of the word. It kills the old, the infirm, and is uncontrollably contagious. Which Generation Z'ers from all over the political spectrum have observed with unrestrained glee. Aside from occasional exceptions, they are the most demonic generation that has ever lived.

It's no coincidence that this thing was unleashed during what is shaping up to be the most turbulent presidential election in American history. Politics is downwind from culture, that's why when I mention politics it's for reasons other than politics. What is most apparent is never the cause. Even that Bloomberg article I linked above mentions how globalism has driven people to embrace extreme left/right politics. Convergence, convergence, convergence.

I never anticipated this, but it is confirming what I had begun writing and expressing in words. I think catalyst is the best word to describe this phenomena. A genuine paradigm shift is taking place I firmly believe that. And I mean a real paradigm, not a metaphor. I might pick up my writing again.

Actually, the Rockefeller Foundation published a scenario in 2010 that was is spookily like what is actually happening.  The Gates Foundation conducted a "drill" in October 2019.

They might have been planning very carefully.  They don't plan "for us", however.  The plan "to do" to us.

I have 2 friends that for various reasons can’t stay home too much during the day. I could elaborate if you want but here is the thing:  they rely on the library for internet and relaxing, Starbucks and McDonalds for food, relaxing and bathroom; use the gym for showering.  All are closed.  You can drive thru for McD and Starbucks but can’t go inside.

Poor babies. Absolute TORTURE being forced to stay home and not flaunt our perfect bodies and have unlimited sex on equatorial beaches for a week! It's a "young people" necessity, a rite of passage! What will we do without tons of sex and Instawhore validation for one week???

This wasn't a slam to your friends, victim, which is a different situation.. It's these privileged pieces of shit like this I'm talking about. I have spent - EVERY - Spring Break of my life either at home or with my family. My life has been spent either at home or at work or at school. My weekends are spent in a house or apartment for the last 15 years. Since I've been unemployed I spend days at a time in my house.

So unfair that this thing seems to attack the ones whom life has already taken a massive dump on. These kids under 30 see it as nothing more than fodder for memes. It's uniquely ironic that their sole aspiration in life is to...go viral. You can't reason with people who consider social media popularity even more important than their own life even. They would quite literally rather die making a viral video on fucking tiktok than anything else.
