Proverbs31:28
Are you currently seeing a therpist? Have you ever seen a therapist? Are you looking for a therapist? Do you wish you could see a therapist? What is the number one characteristic you look for in a therapist?I have a couple, actually! First is I would want someone who is a Christian since I am and I feel like they would understand some of my reactions and concerns, especially those which are based in my faith. Also, I need someone who does not practice cookie cutter therapy! I rebel very quickly against that! Finally, I would look for someone who has experience in dealing with the combined diagnoses of anxiety disorder and major depression. If you currently have a therapist, how did you choose him or her? A friend who is a SS worker looked at the list of Ts on my insurance plan. She asked around to see who matched my preferences and then recommended my current T.Do you prefer one gender of therapist over another? If so, why? Except when inpatient, I have always used female Ts. I just feel more comfortable discussing personal issues with another female.Would you refer a friend or family member to your current therapist? Yes and no. Yes, I would because I do believe she is good at what she does and is genuine. But, probably not while I was still her patient as I would feel kinda weird about it.Would you choose a therapist on the recommendation of a friend? Yes, I did, in fact! How long did it take to get an initial appointment? About a week or two.How often do you see him or her? I was seeing her every week but my copay went up in January so now I see her every other week. How long have you been with your current therapist? Since June or July of last year.Is there anything you think others should know if they asked your opinion about going into therapy? I would tell him/her that you will only get out of therapy what you put into it, so be prepared to be transparent. I would also say to choose the right T for themself, even if it means interviewing several.
