"May the road rise up to meet you" is something I'd heard attributed to the Irish (Dad's Scottish and Mom's English, so I'm probably even less well-informed about the Irish than the average American), and the rest was just a joke based on my visualizing that.Dad's drinking taught me not to start that, and Mom's filling us with tea has put me off that, as well.
