Que Sera Sera

Sometimes the only way to get through my day is to use quotes or phrases that give me inspiration. I invite all of you who do the same to share yours. This is a list of mine.

Que Sera Sera - French; "What Happens, happens."

C'est la vie - French; "Such is life."

Illegitimi Non Carborundum - Mock-Latin; "Don't Let The Bastards Grind You Down!"

I Shall Not Fear, Fear Is The Mind Killer;

Fear Is The Little Death that brings upon total obliteration.

I shall face my fear, I shall let it pass over and through me.

And when it is gone, I shall turn my inner eye to see it's path.

Where fear is gone, there will be nothing.

Only I will Remain

- Frank Herbert

I have the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;

the courage to change the things I can,

and the wisdom to know the difference.

- The Serenity Prayer (Secular Version).

To laugh often and much;

To win the respect of intelligent people

and the affection of children;

To earn the appreciation of honest critics

and endure the betrayal of false friends;

To appreciate beauty,

to find the best in others;

To leave the world a bit better,

whether by a healthy child,

a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;

To know even one life has breathed easier

because you have lived.

This is to have succeeded.

- By Ralph Waldo Emerson.

These are only to name a few.

Wonderful thread, thank you.

When I've lost the meaning of it all, this sometimes pops up (it just did):

"... In the evening of my life, I shall look to the sunset,

At a moment in my life when the night is due,

and the question I shall ask, only I can answer

Was I brave and strong and true?

Did I fill the world with love, my whole life through...?

I lOVE that last one Pseudonym, so glad to have a copy of it now, it's been so long since I last read it. I love quotes so much I have a dictionary of quoatations. This isn't from there though - this is a favourite of mine and is better in context when reading the book it's from, but I still love it.

Prepare, this is a lengthy one. Oh and I've quoted the author, but I think most of us could replace the word "writer" with "survivor" or other word like that.

"I’m going to be a famous writer. In fact, even if I’m not famous now, at least I know I am a writer.

I’m a writer because my hands smell good when I work with rosemary and basil.

I’m a writer because my father’s lawnmower makes our green yard smell like baby’s wishes.

I’m a writer because when I used to look out to sea at those fishing boats the crests of the waves were white.

I’m a writer because when I lie in bed at night the sound of strangers talking low and loving underneath my window makes a warm spot in my stomach.

I’m a writer because the profile of Salvatore’s face fills my stomach with butterflies.

I’m a writer because drums make me want to dance.

I’m a writer because of the sha-na-na’s in any good pop song.

I’m a writer because my mother touches my cheek and says, “Good morning, darly.”

I’m a writer because dawn air is so sweet to breathe it makes me think of clouds floating through Heaven.

I’m a writer because when I stand in front of my full-length mirror and take off all my clothes, piece by piece, I just feel so beautiful.

I’m a writer because when I close my eyes I see a road leading me safely toward the future.

And finally I’m a writer because I will never forget that in Heaven there are good angels and in Hell there are the ones who have fallen, and God make them all, so don’t you dare hate any of them."
