A Loyal Friend

I have one friend. She's been with me as long as I can remember. She rarely leaves my side. She even comes to bed with me many nights. She is consistent, unwavering. She is loyal, she will never leave me. She knows me better than I know myself. She is there in my very worst moments. She is there when I should be happy but am not. She is there when I succeed. She is there when I fail. She is there when I would be otherwise alone. She is there when I am with others. She is there when I am sick. She is there when I am well. Her name is:

ENDLESS SUFFERING

But....

She is not there during those ever so rare times when I feel loved.

Aw, Athena..... we are all here for you!! When I saw your title, and even while I was reading all the really positive things you wrote.......I thought you talking about a pet, or even your inner child. Then again, maybe your inner child is whom you have named ENDLESS SUFFERING.

Yes, I suppose she is my inner child. That crossed my mind when I was picking the gender. Most definitely female.
