malign
I think the word that's confusing you there is "people". ;-)Accounts that have only begun the registration process, long before they are required to make their first post, are already allowed (by the software we're using, which belongs to the hosting company) to "like" posts. So, spammers think this is an advantage in some way (so far, I haven't found out how or even whether it really is an advantage), so they like as many as they can.We try to stop them. :-) Tsunami
LaLa
so far, I haven't found out how or even whether it really is an advantageI imagine it's an advantage as if somebody likes your post, you want to know who it is, so you look on his profile and there you might see the spam ("advertisements") they posted (mainly if it's in "profile feeds" or how is it called). And although I don't understand why would anybody be interested in a spam (and click on the links it offers), for the spammers, to "be seen" seems to be "the aim" (although not "the ultimate" aim). malign
What they're trying to attract to their user profile are the search engine robots. Most spam these days is done to boost the search rank of some external site. But since we generally eliminate the account before they can put a link in their profile, it's not actually working for them, at least not often. LaLa
Ah! I see. Thanks for clarification! It's still such a misterious field to me... Tsunami
