malign
There is a third possibility: he might have been offering support (rather than "cheering up", which might sound like charity to him) precisely by saying that his "achievements" are possible for anyone. Unfortunately, he may have missed the level of pain that you're currently in, which isn't going to let you hear that message at the moment.Everybody seems to be assuming the worst of whoever they're talking to, perhaps with some justification based on their past experience. But it's really starting to become a barrier to whatever support there might be, or have been, on this board. I may have to open that up as a separate discussion, though. nytaiji
Malign, perhaps you are right. I thought about it and couldn't see a third possibility. Although I don't see how "cheering up" could be viewed as charity, I understand what you're saying and I could have misunderstood him. I'll admit, my fuse is short at times. It seemed as if his response to resolute was out of anger. This comment..."I'm not ashamed, and I don't really give a flying f##k what anyone else thinks about it", is what lead me to that conclusion. So naturally, when he started off by saying he wasn't trying to cheer anyone up, I assumed it was also with a negative attitude. I didn't want him to feel completely disregarded which is why I told him I appreciated his response. Perhaps he took my being thankful as sarcasm. I don't know. Unfortunately, without actually hearing someone it requires some speculation. And obviously speculation can be wrong.P.S. The way (Tao) never ends. It's ever changing. modestman
Especially in online discussions, it's generally more productive to assume good faith.
