witchoftime
Hi everyone. My name is Haruka. I'm 19 and struggling with schizophrenia, along with other mental illnesses. I started getting symptoms of schizophrenia around 2009 and was diagnosed in the following year. I used to be on medications but my insurance deemed prescriptions for mental illnesses as "unnecessary" and are no longer covering. Therefore, it would be very expensive out of pocket. So, I've been off meds for about two years, going on three. Some days are worse than others, as you all may understand. Sometimes, I'll go for weeks without having an episode! And I'll think I'll be fine forever!! Only to find myself back into the small dark hole. I'm currently learning about herbs and crystals to help cope with my schizophrenia.I really look forward to being a part of this community. Too many times I have wanted to talk to someone, ANYONE, about an episode I recently had but my "best friends" are never there when I need them, and my family chooses to ignore my illness. Even if no one replies, it'll be nice to just put out my thoughts. If you've made it this far into my post, thank you for listening.
IrmaJean
Welcome to our community, witchoftime.Sorry to hear about your insurance. That must be frustrating. Do you feel the medications were helping?I find it difficult to be alone with any kind of struggle. Support can be so helpful. I'm sorry your friends and family have not been there for you. I hope you will feel free to express yourself here any time you feel the need to.Take gentle care.

I have bipolar depression and it makes me have manic episodes where it really hard to control my thoughts. My world just crashes. And when they first started, when I had them, I would have uncontrollable thoughts of suicide. Those stopped last november but I have had a few episodes since them, just I didn't think about suicide feverishly. Anyways I totally understand about wanting to talk about episodes. I feel no comfort in talking to my friends. I just feel like they can't relate. And my family ignores it too. I think my mom is scared of it and my dad thinks its a disgrace. I really hope you can get back on meds soon! Message me anytime. Were kind of the same age so thats cool. I'll add you as a friend. : )

LaLa
Maris and Haruka, you may consider also seeking some "unusual", supportive approach in addition to your treatment. Here are some possible inspirations:http://beyondmeds.co...-for-psychosis/http://www.rfwa.org....o-seikkula.htmlAnd if you also hear voices, there are some support groups and useful information:http://www.intervoiceonline.orghttp://www.hearing-voices.orgAnd don't forget about some things you can quite easily influence:http://www.livingwit...renia-and-diet/http://www.schizophr...-schizophrenia/I wish you the best of luck!
