Does hitting yourself count?

That's interesting .. I also punched myself today .. lost my job and, sadly, it was all my fault .. but I guess it's ok as long as you don't get stuck in that sorry state .. pack a good punch, man up and go on :)

P.S.: I have not answered your question, just posted this because it seemed funny as I have done the same thing today.

Sorry you felt that much anger, mts. I have hit myself too (as recently as this spring), because i hate myself. I've cut myself with razors and jackknives too. You're not the only one who has this defect. I hope you will find support in this community where a lot of people understand what you're going through.

In my case, mts, it always requires a motivation; typically a mistake i made. If i make a dumb mistake with significant consequences, then it activates my self-hatred and i hurt myself. The best example was when i was in college and i forgot to pick my father up at an appointment. That's when i used the jackknife. I still have scars on my left arm from that.

The media seems to want to make this a thing that only young women do (for example, Maggie Gyllenhaal's character in the movie Secretary). But it seems to me it could be a problem for anyone whose self-esteem has been crushed badly enough. Not that i'm a research psychologist who's studied it scientifically.
