Going into a state of depression?

inferiority

I don't expect anybody to read this, but here goes...

Over the past few days, not really sure when this exactly started, i have been noticing that i seem to be getting into a more and more depressed state. I have been eating even less than i was before and have no intentions of doing so any more often at the moment. I have been sleeping a lot lately, probably about 5 hours during the day today, just wasting the day away. For some reason all of a sudden i feel very "dirty" i guess is the word to put here. i haven't gotten anything done today and my parents are all over my case for this. I am just full out hating myself right now, and im not sure if it is going to keep getting any worse than this. today, my parents managed to drag me into walmart with them, and i kept looking at the ground all of the time, not wanting to "sneak a peek at anything" is what i guess i was thinking, even though i am pretty sure i wouldn't anyway. i'm not really sure what is going on right now, whether it is depression or what, but at the moment i just feel like a lower sort of lifeform that doesn't deserve to inhabit the planet.

i hope that somebody reads this, but even if nobody does, at least getting this out there should be a little bit of a relief.

Pseud, I think the nerdy part is knowing about the worst OS EVER. And let's see, back in 2000, I was six. I do remember the 90's a bit. I love a lot of the music from that era, and I think as far as the general public was concerned, everything was just much happier...

Yeah, well I know not everyone had a good time in the 90's, but remember the days before autotune, before the TSA drove everyone crazy, when MTV actually played music, etc etc etc?

Do you know Sugar Ray? They had two or three really well known songs back in the 90's. They're kind of looked at as an homage to summer, and today, I listened to them on the beach. That was pretty damn awesome!

Can't say I really care about the 80's at all. I don't really care for any music or much anything else that came out of that decade. Except Lawn Darts. I've never actually seen any in person, but those hold a special place in my heart...

Good night, inf. I hope you start feeling better soon. Depression can be a real downer. Sometimes, it can help to just talk with others. It may also be nice if you have a favorite teddy (which I'm still looking for mine, by the way :o)

I think with that, I'm also going to bed.

Yeah, how are things going? Depression sucks. It makes us feel dirty, worthless, like we deserve death, etc. But you should know that holding those feelings about yourself are entirely irrational. You've never done anything to hurt anyone -- Even though you were presented a "pedophile's dream" over and over again. That takes guts. Try and cheer up a little. The alternative sucks :). I'm almost always here if you want to talk...

So then I assume you'll probably be pretty inactive until later on. Okay, do what you need to do.

By the way, history only sucks if you don't have the right teacher. I had the greatest teacher for the last two years. He's worked at the school for over 30 years and so he's now extremely lazy. His entire class consisted of lecture and an open note pop quiz every few days. He's very funny, and if he likes you, he's very easy to get off topic. Still, you come out of the class knowing a lot of history. I guess that now that I'm switching schools, I'm going to have to adjust to a regular history class...

thanks guys,

ill just take a few minutes away from it to say this...

my main problem with taking notes on a history textbook is that the point of notes is to copy down the important points for reference later, but to me.... all of this information is so very new that i basically feel the need to copy the textbook verbatim. ;) it takes longer to decide what not to copy than to actually take the notes. doh :)

Some studying tips:

1. Textbooks are not novels. They are information-dense. They read much slower. If you try to read it quickly, then you are only dragging your eyes over the words and not internalizing any of it.

2. Do not study by memorizing lists of stuff. You need to make a picture in your head of what all this stuff is and how it relates to each other. If you've got the larger picture, then when you need to recall a piece of it later, it's much easier to find because you have context for it and you know where to look. As you read the textbook, try to visualize what is going on. Maybe even sketch a cartoon or draw sort of a bubble diagram with different pieces of the story written in bubbles that you connect to each other with lines and arrows. I think organizing your notes in a list and then memorizing the list is probably the least productive way to go about it. Always try and have a picture in your head. This is history, so, maybe try and imagine you were going to make a movie about the chapter you are reading. Who are the actors? What's the plot? How does it play out and why? If you get that in your head, you've got context for all the information you are trying to absorb and you will be able to recall it all much more easily.

3. Also--don't "reverse engineer" answers as you study. If you make a habit of reading a question at the end of the chapter, then looking back through the text to find it, you aren't learning the material in a way that is going to lead to you passing a test or retaining anything. Read the chapter and get the picture in your head first, then when you come to the questions, the answers are already in your head. If they aren't, then this is a sign you should study a bit more.
