Orientation was terrible :o

inferiority

the first orientation today for my lil bro and sis was fun, met up with some friends and stuff, but the second one today for my class.......

the second one was terrible. this was the orientation for the class that i didn't even sign up for, "Child Psychology/Education". As soon as i walked into the class with my sister and dad, they all automatically thought that my sister was taking the class and were sort of shocked when they figured out that a male was enrolled into it. throughout the entire orientation i was getting mean and negative stares from just about everyone else there, including the teacher.

later on i talked with her one on one about being the only male in the class, and it really seems that she discriminates against all males when it comes to these things.

at one point in this lecture, i was just so freaked out that my entire body felt numb and i felt stress and panic building up all inside of me.

i still want to try to get out of that class when the time comes... but at the same time i want to prove that teacher wrong. i know this isn't a reason to stay in it, and i am still going to try to transfer out, but still :o:D:o

What it was really about is that many people don't seem to understand that women can be offenders. It's not as uncommon as it once was (or at least appeared to be.)

I don't think anyone thinks women can't be offenders...(recall my mother...)

but i think that statistically more offenders are male and also that men can have a more intimidating physical presence.

Statistically speaking, the law is more forgiving to female offenders. I can't remember the exact numbers, but women had a much higher chance of getting lighter sentences or even getting off completely. Its disgusting.

maybe that's because women are often perceived as weaker and more vulnerable and less able to damage in some way?...i don't know. Any women care to give their input on gender politics here?

What I've gathered from the anti abuse and charity groups that I've been involved with online, many people don't seem to realize that fact. I think it's a reality that people don't WANT to realize. This group mostly consists of women, and I'm only repeating what they said because I strongly agree with them. I've read far too many TERRIBLE, HEARTBREAKING stories about children being abused physically/sexually/mentally, neglected, and oftentimes murdered. A shocking amount of these people are women.

But I do agree that men appear more intimidating. And yes, I know that the numbers of men who are offenders are statistically higher. That's why I said in my initial post that it was understandable why mothers gather their children when they see a man without his child.

Not in this country women aint.

Sue, it seems that in your country, both men AND women get off with minimal punishments. I can't begin to explain how disgusted I am with the way your justice system treats these people. And then once they're released, the citizens have to pay tax dollars to keep them safe by giving them new identities and protection.

I don't know about women here in the US, but men usually get VERY long punishments when convicted of abuse crimes against children. I can only assume that this is also true of women, but I don't actually know.

i'm not really into politics either...just trying to find explanations for things.

mm--you did indeed say it was understandable, but you also said it wasn't right...so maybe i can't make sense of that...

I guess what I was really getting at with the "not right" thing was that a lot of these mothers fear men, but not other women.

And I see we've recruited you to the anti politics club. We grow more powerful by the minute !

but unfortunately, the law about these things varies by state, in some states you get nothing but about 7 months, but in ohters (like florida i was reading about) you can get years and years and even have to pay money for each illegal picture you possess.

I think more often than not, people don't get punished at all. This is why i always think it's weird when I see you freaking out about being "caught".

Well, I've been talking about actual abusers here. I think that it's probably more likely for someone who watches the CP to be caught than for the actual molester. My reasoning behind that is that oftentimes, the victim doesn't tell anyone about his/her abuse.

The other reason is that for one incidence of abuse, the pictures/videos can be downloaded thousands of times. That's all traceable. But anyway, I've mostly stopped freaking out about being caught. My therapist told me that from the offenders that he's seen, they all seem to have been caught in the act, and not months after they stopped.

or you can rape a child for years and as long as you make them too scared to tell, you get off scott free after the statute of limitations is up even if they decide to speak up later.

Zach, I'm sorry. Should we stop talking about this?
