We decorated the office for Halloween today.

So naturally the tax payers joke of the day is, trick or treat, and than hand us their payment and say this is a trick. They all think they're so funny, they don't realize that we've heard it all a zillion times before. And it's not funny.

That sounds like a great excuse to dress up as something truly horrible, and jump out at them when they laugh.

And just think of the fun you'll have near Christmas: when they come in for their refunds, you dress up as Santa and ask them whether they've been good. "I seem to remember a little mischief back around Hallowe'en time ...." and then hand them an empty envelope.

Oh no, we don't give refunds! This is property taxes.

Actually, we really irritate them at Christmas. We're one of the few towns that has what's called an accelerated tax sale, that takes place the third week in December. Yup, Merry Christmas, a lien on your property

The only fun part is the people who fought with us during the year and refused to pay interest, they are shocked when they are on the tax sale list for just a few dollars

Oh wow, that would call for bullet-proof glass in your teller windows ...

But on the bright side, you guys and lawyers are the only people who can properly spell "lien".

we totally used to have bullet proof glass, then we switched offices, now we have no glass, just a slide open window. And let me tell you, some of these people are seriously scary, they get so mad!

I won't ask how you are, because that seems to irritate you, and you're "fine" anyway, but still, I'm curious, if you feel like sharing.
